Homemade Salad Dressing

Posted on August 6, 2013 at 9:55 PM

Many people will surprised to know, especially those who have eaten my cooking, that when it comes down to it, I really hate to cook. I've never really liked it, but the joy I get from seeing my family happy at dinner time makes it so much easier for me to stand over a hot stove and put together a good 'ole southern meal. No one really actually took the time to teach me how to cook, I really don't know why. Many times my grandmother would shoo me out her kitchen when I became too inquisitive and started asking a bunch of questions. My guess is that maybe she just didn't have the patience for a curious little 8 year old girl. However, I decided that I wasn't going to be denied the right to learn how to cook, so I stopped talking so much while I was in the kitchen with her, and just began to watch her silently as I mentally took notes. And as I got older, I was finally invited to help with preparing the family dinner. I really don't know why I hate to cook, nothing dramatic occurred or anything of that sort, I just would rather have someone cook for me, and I be the one to take care of the dishes after wards. Now that I think about it, I love to clean up my house from top to bottom, now that's what I love to do, clean, I could do that all day long, but that's an entirely different topic. Let's carry on...well, I decided that I would use this section of my journal to share pictures and recipes of the dishes that I prepare for you to use at your discretion. But I must warn you, please be sure to proceed with caution when using my form of measuring; I use the old fashioned "eyeball it method" and "I just know how much guesstimate" - that's just the way it is, and that is how grandma used to it, now I am stuck with this bad habit, and I know I am not the only one :D

  • I am addicted to Hidden Valley Ranch Dressing. I put it on everything, it was a time in my life that I could not live without it until I realized that it caused me to gain extra pounds. I really hate this extra love handles or butter rolls I have on each side of my back. Finally, I have cut back a whole lot, but it's still my favorite, it's my BFF, so today when I looked in the fridge and noticed we were low, I was forced to come up with a darn good replacement, and lo' and behold, I did!
  • Recipe for simple Homemade Salad Dressing: (Serves 2-3 people with small side salad) 3 tablespoons of mayonnaise (I use Hellman's), 1 tablespoon of Apple Cider Vinegar (after you taste it you can add more if you like), 1 tablespoon of Spicy Brown Mustard, a sprinkle of onion powder, garlic powder, and oregano, a dash of salt, and a dash of pepper, and 3 big dashes of Worchestershire Sauce, don't worry about adding too much in it because the vinegar will even it out. Be free to use your taste buds, they will never lie. Mix really well until it's a smooth consistency. Now drizzle over your salad, as little or as much as you want. That's it, I hope you like it. Here is a picture of my creation, and the second one is my dinner plate; on it is fried chicken drum sticks (I LOVE fried chicken), rice with mixed veggies, tossed salad with my wonderful homemade dressing. Oh, by the way, my baby son had some and he said, "Mmm  Mama! This is really really good! You did a great job!" I love that little guy, he is so awesome. Okay, be sure to come back and leave me a comment and tell me how it turned out for you. Have Fun!
P.S. Did I mention that I love to eat? ;-)

ROFL - Big Sis, the way you be cooking up a storm and you are a baker too, I would be so fat and happy! If you were here today, you would have really enjoyed the meal. I thank God every day for creating chicken!

Wow that is great that you made your own salad dressing. I also Love Ranch Dressing especially Kraft but I will use Hidden Valley or Wishbone Ranch Dressing too. I also love Fried Chicken too (who doesn't lol) and the drumstick is one of my favorite pieces of the chicken besides the wings.
